Fathers and The Native Community

In honor of Father's Day I want to share with you a promo but also a very cool organization I support.

"The family is the oldest most important institution in society and is the heart of Native American cultures, there is no other work more important than fatherhood" "The family is the oldest most important institution in society and is the heart of Native American cultures, there is no other work more important than fatherhood" NAFFA

Some Native American words for FATHER Powhatan.................................nohsh (my father) Algonquin...................................weyòsimind Delaware (Lenape).....................noch (my father) Choctaw...........................................aki (my father) Lakota...........................................ate (my father) Cherokee..........................................adadoda Within many traditional Native Communities, fathers were not the disciplinarians. That was left to extended family members so that the mother and father could be there to give the love, warmth, support and encouragement the child would need.

When I personally think of a father figure I think of the bear. Being the most powerful symbol in Native Lore and storytelling it is also a warm loving figure. I picture the bear as one that would protect you and keep you safe. Even if you were not blood related, if you felt a closeness with someone you would adopt them into your family. A beautiful saying some of us still live by is " now my problems are your problems, and your problems are my problems". Many Native people build their families this way. No one is ever alone. Native American Fatherhood & Families Association (NAFFA) began in 2002 with just one father and the mission of bringing Native American men back to strengthening their families. Since then, NAFFA has successfully impacted thousands of lives and families. NAFFA is an Arizona based non-profit 501(C) (3) organization that provides programs to strengthen Native American families through responsible fatherhood and motherhood. Our programs are one of a kind, creating a real passion in parents to take a leadership role in keeping families together and growing healthy children.

In Honor of Father's Day I would like to offer My Print "Love The Bear" at 20% off.
